Professor (W3) of Psychiatry (f/m/d)

The position implies heading the clinical service of psychiatry and psychotherapy at the Bezirkskrankenhaus Günzburg. 

We invite clinical academics with good German language skills and national and international visibility to apply. The post involves representing clinical psychiatry within the University in research, teaching and clinical care (and collaborating with other chairs in the fields of psychiatry, psychosomatic medicine and child and adolescent psychiatry). An excellent scientific track record is considered a prerequisite for this post, and a high level of clinical experience and expertise is required. National and international research collaboration is considered important.

The aim for the new professor will be to develop the focus of research in mental health services research (which has been the research focus at the department) with themes of research such as care needs, implementation and outcomes research and research on the patient/ user perspectives. Societal and health economics research should be part of the research portfolio. Strengthening the international research profile is considered essential in further developing the department’s reseach profile.

The department participates in the German Centre for Mental Health (DZP) as a component of ZIHub. Cooperation with other departments and research groups across the Faculty and University will be considered a high priority, and trauma research and prevention research are considered faculty hubs of interest.

The organisation of health care involves leading a clinical service at the Bezirkskrankenhaus Günzburg which is one of eight clinical sites of the Bezirkskliniken Schwaben, a public mental (and neurological and neurosurgery) health service trust in the Bavarian region (Bezirk) of Schwaben. The company has an overall staff of 4,600 employees with its executive offices in Augsburg. The clinical service in Günzburg comprises 312 beds, day hospital care, outpatient (and crisis intervention outpatient) care, and a mother-baby unit. In a few years' time, the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy II will move into a new building at the current site (with 290 inpatient and 20 day clinic beds).

The post involves all teaching components offered to medical students within their undergraduate training (and a teaching contribution to psychology undergraduate and postgraduate training) within the Faculty of Medicine. Collaboration across the Medical Faculty and neighbouring faculties is expected. Active involvement in the faculty teaching and training hospital (TTU) in Ulm is expected of the person appointed to the post, and teaching commitments will include elective courses offered to medical (and psychology) undergraduate students.
Employment requirements are completed university studies as well as teaching aptitude, a doctoral degree and further pertinent scientific achievements (§ 47 LHG) and  the full qualification of specialist in psychiatry (Facharzt für Psychiatrie und Psychotherapie or equivalent specialist qualification) is a prerequisite for this post.
