The following professorship is to be filled in the Institute of Epidemiology and Medical Biometry at the Medical Faculty of Ulm University:
Professor (W3) for Epidemiology (f/m/d)
management responsibilities

We expect an internationally recognized research profile in the field of epidemiology, ideally with links to the key research areas of the Medical Faculty. This should be evidenced by publications in internationally renowned journals. Experience in the successful acquisition of collaborative projects, third-party funding, leadership skills to manage a successful institute as well as the willingness to actively participate in the academic self-administration and the further development of epidemiology at the location are also required.

The Institute is currently involved in several extensive registers that are to be used, operated and developed scientifically in cooperation.


The professorship is intended to further develop the key areas of the Medical Faculty such as molecular mechanisms of ageing and age-associated diseases, trauma, neurology and oncology, support of existing institutions and projects, e.g. the German Centres for Health Research in Ulm (DZNE, DZPG and DZKJ), the special research areas of the Medical Faculty, the CCC and NCT-SüdWest, the Centre for Personalized Medicine (ZPM) and the Centre for Multidimensional Trauma Research (MTW) into the research concepts of epidemiology.
In addition, the Medical Faculty would like to further develop the subject areas of prevention and artificial intelligence, causal methods and public health.


Active participation in the ethics committee is enclosed.


Curricular and extracurricular courses on basic knowledge of descriptive and analytical epidemiology in the study of human medicine, as well as knowledge of the design, implementation and evaluation of epidemiological studies to investigate disease incidence, progression and possible causes are mandatory. This goes hand in hand with the ability to use epidemiological data for practical work in diagnosis, therapy and prevention planning. Active participation in the development of innovative courses, also in the context of the new teaching building (TTU), is expected.
 
Employment requirements are completed university studies as well as teaching aptitude, a doctoral degree and further pertinent scientific achievements (§ 47 LHG).
