In a joint appointment with the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE), the Medical Faculty of Ulm University is seeking to fill the position of

Professor (W3) of a new senior research group “Innovative Therapeutic Approaches” (f/m/d)


This position is combined with a professorial appointment (grade W3) at Ulm University according to the Jülich model. The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate closely with Ulm University as well.


The German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) is a unique non-university research center which is dedicated to the subject dementia and all its areas, as well as other neurodegenerative diseases. The center compasses the full spectrum of fundamental research through population sciences to health care research. The DZNE stands for excellence in research and science management, translation of scientific results into practice, interdisciplinarity and internationalization. It is a research center within the Helmholtz Organization of German research centers. With over 1,000 employees from 55 nations, spread over 10 sites, the DZNE is one of the national and international leading research centers in its research field.



Successful candidates (f/m/d) should have a PhD, MD or equivalent qualification. Of particular interest are neuroscientists and clinical scientists interested in mechanisms of neurological disorders and neurodegenerative diseases. The primary criteria for appointment will be a strong record of innovative research and academic performance, as well as high potential for establishing a rigorous and substantial independent research program and fruitful collaborations. The candidates shall have experience in nanotechnology, pharmacokinetics, and neurobiology.
The Ulm site is engaged in translational research of neurodegenerative diseases, with a focus on amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, frontotemporal dementia and Huntington´s disease, and open to investigation of other rare diseases.
The newly established group will complement the local research focused on nanocarriers, gene silencing (antisense nucleotides) and strategies modulating translation as therapeutic strategies.
 


The research group should reflect novel therapeutic strategies, for example nanotechnology, gene silencing, and/or modification of RNA translation to develop therapeutic and diagnostic approaches in ALS, FTD and HD.
