PhD student ( f/m/d)

for our Neurochemistry/Neurodegeneration working Group for Neuroproteomics and Biomarker research

Your tasks:
  • Develop customized panels of immunoassays for analysis of novel biomarker candidates
  • Optimize panels for biomarker detection in both cerebrospinal fluid and blood using state-of-the-art technologies
  • Technically and clinically validate these novel tests in relevant patient samples from different cohorts
  • Depending on the level of qualification also a neuropsychological evaluation of the different diseases can be a major part of the project
  • Process and analyze the data
  • Communicate results by means of oral presentations and scientific publications
  • Perform a six month secondment (internship) abroad

Your profile:
  • Highly motivated and enthusiastic early-stage Researcher with a strong interest in biochemistry and clinical chemistry of dementia
  • Pro-active and precise, excellent communication skills, talents for organizing and to work optimally when collaborating with others.
  • Like to solve scientific problems and have an intrinsic motivation and capacity to continuously improve yourself
  • Must be within the first four years (full-time equivalent) of their research career
  • Must not already hold a PhD
  • Must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) within Germany for more than 12 months in the three years immediately prior to their recruitment
  • Aiming to obtain a PhD degree
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Research master’s degree in the field of life sciences (biology, biochemistry, psychology or related). In addition, training in mass spectrometry and/or antibody based methods is advantageous
  • Ability to generate scientific outputs for publication in peer reviewed journals
  • Willing to travel to attend internships, training and academic Events
  • Ability to work within an internationally diverse team and to attain with the requirements of the funder
